Shoreditch, Hoxton and White Chapel are filled with so many murals and streetart pieces.
Tipping my hat to the oldest and best bar in Long Beach.
Great vibe in here today. Rice beer. My buddy says it's good.
@Happierdad and I were down at the Santa Monica Pier killing time when we came across Nuke doing some cool balance and strength work. The "Rings" area of the beach just south of Santa Monica pier has changed quite a bit over the years. It's great to see the influx of slack lines and people leveraging their gymnastics, parkour and cross fit skills. Nuke was cool enough to let us snap a few shots. The combination of beach, tattoos and his strength made for some great quick snapshots.
Weather was great in Echo Park this past weekend. They did a great job on the park renovation.
I've had a week to think about the trip to Baja. I'll have another formal written piece coming out soon on a different publication. However, I'm sharing some informal thoughts about the Baja Peninsula. There were 4 of us. We all share the same energy. That makes for a good trip no matter the destination.
It was intended to be a surf trip. However the swells that ultimately arrived were beyond massive. Too big for anybody in our group. Nobody felt too bad about not paddling out because nobody wanted to get drilled that bad south of the border.
It turned into a trip of exploration and adventure. We managed to travel down the coast quite a ways before exploring inland. The inland area of Baja is a jewel. The wine country there is the best kept secret in North America. No joke. The Guadalupe Valley is the vast wine producing region that is growing by the month. At the time of writing this piece there are 88 wineries in the area.
The top winery for us was Xecue Vinicola. Run by husband and wife Jose Luis and Alberta, this winery is tucked away far from the road. It's worth the trip just to go here. Xecue means "love" in a local indigenous dialect. It's pronounced "juh-kway". Of all of the tasting rooms I've found myself in over the years, the Xecue tasting room is by far the best. See photo my photo below of the garden surrounding the tasting room.
For food we went to Finca Altozano for our big meal. It was a recommendation from a friend who implored us to go. We are so glad we did. This restaurant is out in the middle of nowhere and people are dressed to the 9s and it is crowded nonstop. Make a reservation. Trust us. See photo below I snapped of the octopus ceviche. It was the best ceviche I've ever had.
I successfully made the worst cup of coffee in the history of the Baja Peninsula. Was horrible, but got the job done.
This one gave me a chuckle this morning. #stayqueerasfuck
Had a great session today with my photography mentee. Next lesson is on portraits!
Rare sight on a sunny day in Silver Lake
Had a cool experience here with the folks at Intelligentsia on Sunset Blvd.
The great thing about Alamitos Beach is that it is super mellow on the mornings.
Had breakfast in the great Hillcrest enclave of San Diego. There are tons of pedestrians, bars, restaurants and minty duplexes like this one.

Mucho Arigato recently sat down with legendary Surfboard Maker Roger Hinds. I was able to get a great batch of photos throughout the afternoon. Another great element of my time with Roger is that the Boardroom Show website is running my interview with Roger.
I spent an afternoon at the Roger Hinds Surfboards factory here in Southern California. I peppered our conversation with photos and simple observation of watching the master at work. When Roger works, he exudes a calm that seems to permeate his factory and store front. He's known for his start to finish approach to surfboard making. He, with his own single set of hands, does phases of the board build. Roger shapes, sands, polishes and glasses.
He learned the art of surfboard making when he moved to the North Shore of Oahu in the early 1970s when surfing was evolving faster than the surfers and shapers and builders could keep up. I don't know if it's the location, the era the social upheaval (hippies, vietnam, native Hawaiians, etc) that had the biggest effect on his very even-keel approach to making surfboards.
He makes boards for all types of clients: big wave riders, ladies, old dudes, young shredders and that kook that lives next door to you. Check out the interview. I think you'll like it.
